Personal ledger · no bank login

The bottom line of your money.

Nixpense keeps every card, account and loan you hold in one ledger — each in the currency it is actually denominated in — and resolves the whole lot to a single figure you can trace back.

Rules you can read, in plain words

Entries land categorised. Correct one and it sticks, so the same merchant never asks twice. Nothing here is statistical — every decision is a pattern you could read out loud, and yours always outranks ours.

First guess

A fresh import lands sorted, not as a wall of Uncategorised.

Keyword rules, Canadian-first. A guess is labelled a guess — "auto, confirm?" — so you know exactly which rows deserve a second look.

Memory

Correct Starbucks once. It is never asked about again.

Your correction is ground truth: it outranks the guess permanently, and every Starbucks in the next statement lands pre-sorted.

One merchant

SQ *STARBUCKS and INTERAC PURCHASE 4471 STARBUCKS are the same shop.

Bank descriptions wobble between statements. They are normalised to a stable key first, so one correction is not quietly taught something narrower than you meant.

Not income

"PAYMENT — THANK YOU" is a card payment, not money coming in.

Transfers and debt payments are matched before income, so money moving between your own accounts never inflates what you appear to earn.

Yours

Rename any category, add your own, delete what you do not use.

Every rule is a plain pattern you could read out loud. There is no model deciding in the dark and nothing to retrain.

03Currencies

Every currency you hold. One total. No quiet restatements.

Reporting total · August

Each entry keeps the amount in the currency it was made in, plus the rate stamped on that date. Change the reporting currency and nothing in the history is rewritten.

FAQ

Questions worth asking

Anything else, write to feedback@nixpense.com.

Does Nixpense connect to my bank?

No — and it never will ask to. There is no bank connection in the product at all: you export a PDF statement yourself and hand that over. Nixpense never sees a banking credential, and it has no payment rail, so it cannot move money.

How are different currencies added together?

Each entry keeps the amount in the currency it was made in, plus the rate published on that date, so history never moves when the market does. You can scope the whole app to a single currency and see the figures exactly as printed with no conversion at all, or combine them when one total is genuinely what you want.

Which currencies are supported?

Twenty-eight: the Canadian dollar, plus every currency the Bank of Canada publishes a daily rate for — US dollar, euro, pound, rupee, yen, yuan, real, rand and twenty more. That list is the limit on purpose. Offering a currency we cannot price historically would mean offering an account whose past we could never render honestly.

What if my bank is not supported?

It still tries — an unfamiliar statement is read from its labels rather than refused. If it will not import, you can send the layout of the document (every digit stripped out, so no amounts leave your device) and the parser gets taught that issuer.

What happens to my data if I leave?

Export everything as a single file — every record, including the original PDFs — then delete the account. Deletion removes the documents and the entries, not just your login.

Do you sell anything to anyone?

No ads, no affiliate cards, no data resale, and no third-party analytics anywhere in the app. Nixpense is free while it is in active development.

Can it read a scanned statement or a photo?

No. There is no OCR, so a scanned or photographed page has no text to read and the app says so plainly rather than returning an empty result. Export the PDF from your bank instead of scanning a paper copy.
